Buying And Selling Websites For Profit

As of the time I site here writing this article, there are 1,009 listings active on Flippa, with over 3,000 bids taken in the last 7 days. Most auctions last between 5 – 15 days on Flippa, with a large number of them being private sales that do not take bids in the same way as the auctions. In the past 7 days, a total of $525,485 worth of sales has been checked through the site, what exactly does this tell you about buying and selling websites for profit on Flippa?

It’s OK, I know that not everyone has really had a chance to get into the market of buying and selling websites for profit, this is a giant leap in itself, however, I want to give you a real boost. The get up and go that is needed to jump into a new market.

As a webmaster, or entrepreneur, I am sure that you would have a backlog of websites that only serve to waste your outsourcers time, or even worse, your own time. I am going to refer to a great piece of content that I recently heard in a great package called “The 7 Figure Code”, and that is, “To succeed, you need to go the way of the wombat”. Doesn’t make sense? To put it in simple terms, focus on doing one thing, being the one thing that you do best. This is how I got to where I am today, and to be completely honest, I learned to flip sites by clearing all the junk out of my hosting account. And of course by becoming a Flippa Broker, but that is an entirely different and developing story.

One Persons Garbage Is Your Opportunity

Take that headline with a grain of salt. One thing I want to get very clear is that Flippa is not all about selling websites. It is also about buying websites, and this in itself is where the real opportunity comes from. In fact, some of the largest sales on Flippa have come from websites that were originally bought from the marketplace. As much as anyone can say that you can create a website in a few months and sell for a profit on Flippa, unfortunately, this is not where the money is. In its truest form, the real money is in buying then selling on Flippa. Even then, purchasing existing aged domains to create websites to sell on Flippa.

Lets use the recent sale of retweet.com on Flippa, this was a record sale on Flippa in March this year that resulted in a sale of $250,000. When the seller of this site was interviewed, it was discovered that they purchased the domain when Twitter started to explode, and created a simple retweet feed on site. Very simple concept with a few RSS tweaks and a great web interface, and before you know it, it made the owner very rich, and with what? A small up front investment, a bit of work, and a few years to age. This is the foundation of buying and selling websites on Flippa for profit, and the potential that this marketplace is currently wielding.

Of course, there are many ways to start selling websites on Flippa, I have my ways that work for me, and I am sure that you have yours as well, however before you head back to Google (or check out what else I have on my blog), I want you to memorize this, and never forget it. 1000 auctions. 3000 bids. $500,000. And if that doesn’t do it for you, then head over to Website Flipping Broker and sign up to the mailing list. Something awesome is about to start happening over there for you site flippers in the making.

hi i have a questions , how much money would you advise i should start with? . i am currently researching various ways of making money on the internet as i am very cautious and want to avoid scams

  3. Hi Russ, I will be honest here. When I started out online, all that I spent was the cost of a new domain, plus hosting which is around 15$ initially, then 5$ a month from there. Now my costs are higher though, however, that’s not to say that you cant start on a simple few dollars a month on hosting. Start small, refine your process, then repeat.

My first website that i sold cost me a grand total of 10$ for the domain, and around $30 for hosting. I probably spent around 10 hours putting it together in total, and that site sold for $1000. Hope that serves as a good example for you. :)
